VoIP number checker

How to check if a number is VoIP

Google Voice, TextNow and other app numbers look exactly like ordinary cell phone numbers. Run the free lookup and the result tells you whether the number is VoIP and, when it’s available, which app or provider it comes from.

Why people check for VoIP

“The same person keeps signing up”

Free app numbers take seconds to create, which makes them popular for repeat trial and promo signups. See which signups use them and decide what to allow. Check line type at signup.

“Is this buyer or renter for real?”

When someone you’ve never met gives you a number, it helps to know whether it’s a carrier cell phone or an app number before you go further.

“Our texts to these numbers fail”

Not every VoIP number can receive texts, and many business phone systems can’t. Knowing the line type helps you choose between a text and a call.

How to read a VoIP check

  1. Enter the full number in the free lookup. Include + and the country code for numbers outside the US and Canada.
  2. Check Phone Line Type. VoIP is one result, alongside cell phone, landline and toll-free.
  3. Check Phone Company to see the app or provider, such as Google Voice or TextNow. Provider details aren’t available for every number.
  4. Check the fake number result too. A number can be fake whatever its line type.

What the result doesn’t tell you

A VoIP result describes the number, not the person. It doesn’t identify the owner, confirm they have the phone right now, or show where they are. Numbers can also move between providers, and porting information varies by country. If you need someone to prove they control a number, send a one-time code. Validation vs. verification explains the difference.

Find the VoIP numbers in your list or app

One number is free. To check a whole list, upload a CSV or Excel file and choose Line Type + Fake Number Check. To check numbers as they come in, the API returns line type and provider in real time, and new accounts get 125 free lookups with no card required.
